Most introverts have an assortment of unique talents that make them very good in leadership roles. Their talents help them to drown out distractions and think critically to help move their projects and their subordinates in the direction they are supposed to go. That being said, being an introvert also comes with its own set of challenges. If you are in a leadership position as an introvert, we have some tips that will help you succeed.

Play Up Your Team Members Positive Points

Everyone likes to hear compliments from the supervisor especially when they are generally reserved. It is a good idea to take time out to acknowledge the good traits of your team members so that they get the confidence to keep doing their jobs well. Not only will they feel appreciated, but they will also learn that although you are reserved you are still paying attention to their individual contributions. It is also a great way to get feedback from your employees and assign them tasks in which they will excel and ones that they will enjoy.

Understand Your Strengths

Introverts spend a lot of time on their own and in their own heads. As a result, it is easy to think that as an introvert being a leader is not a natural inclination. While being shy is normal, there are many traits that introverts have that make them highly effective in positions of leadership. Two of the most important traits are the ability to actively listen to those around them and also the propensity for thoughtfulness. Trying to act against your natural inclinations by being social is not only uncomfortable, but it can also make you less effective in your chosen role. Keep your strengths in mind when leading others and use that as a way to maintain high confidences levels while leading your team along the path of success.

Maintain Communication

Being an introvert means that you most likely will want to avoid crowds and group meetings. As a leader, it is impossible to avoid your team and still expect things to get done. Instead, create a clear communication process that your team members can follow whenever they need to have access to you. For example, you can let them know that your door is open for questions and concerns during certain hours or encourage team members to email at any time they need your assistance. Make sure the lines of communication are always open so work can flow smoothly in your office even if you are an introvert.
